Resortwear Basics: 5 No Fail Swimwear Tips to find the Perfect Fit
8 June 2009

When making any summer clothing purchase, contrary to popular belief, it's far more important to consider your shape than your size. Emphasise your best bits (great legs or a cleavage to die for) and downplay those you're less fond of.
Swimwear is no different.
Stick to these 5 simple tips and you'll find the perfect fit every time!
1. To Conceal a Tummy:
- Try a print. A 'placement' print is a large feature print strategically placed from one side across the tummy area but not all the way over. By doing this, it creates the illusion of a waist. An 'overall' print is also the master of disguise.
- Cleverly placed ruching across the tummy area is a very flattering solution.
- Cross-over front - the diagonal line helps to break up any fullness
- Go for 'power netting' - a reinforced inner layer of a one piece that is designed to comfortably hold you in and firm you up. They can even take you down a size they're so effective (both swimsuits above have 'power netting' in them.
- Try a 'tankini' (singlet top style bikini). It will give you the coverage of a one piece with the freedom of a two piece with more 'mix' n 'match' options.
2. Fuller Hips:
- Draw attention upwards to detract from your least flattering area. Go for a well detailed top and darker colour or plain bottoms.
- DON'T wear a 'boy leg' or lower leg pant. You want to stretch and extend your legs as much as possible and that is done with a higher leg cut. You can still get more than enough bottom coverage without having to wear a low cut leg. It will create a strong line across your body right where you're widest part is and that can only spell disaster.
3. Narrow Hips:
- Pretty much the opposite of what to do with Fuller Hips...bring details to your hips to add width and interest with tie sides and frills.
- Prints are fabulous
4. Smaller Bust:
- Look for tops that have great detail like a buckle or frills and twists
- Removable bust 'fillers' are a must as too are padded cups for that extra 'boost'
5. Larger busts:
- Go for halter style 'tops' and a classic strapless one piece
- An underwire for extra lift and support - so much more stylish than 'saggy'
- Consider slightly wider shoulder straps for added support, comfort and lift. Prints and colours will help to detract from any extra width.
Above all else, Celebrate You and let your personality shine through. Choose the colours and prints that best express the real you and have fun.
There is nothing more gorgeous than a confident women. With the right swimwear, you'll be off to a great start this summer. Enjoy!
