What's your FACE got to do with your kaftan preference? Quite a bit apparently...
6 March 2009

It wasn't something that I'd paid much attention to really, other than when it came to selecting my Sunnies.
Face colour, sure I knew was important...part of my overall personal colour palette, helping me to work out if I was warm or cool etc. And it threw a clue or two about hair styles.
But as for face SHAPE...well I never regarded it as offering anything else when it came to the eternal 'what to wear to look fabulous' search.
I was at my son's primary school the other night, doing my thing at our Make Over My Mum evening. It was the year's first social event, designed to bring mums together to make new friends and kindle old. A couple of drinks, bit of a chat...a few giggles...that sort of thing. Great success by the way...had a ball.
I teamed up with my great mate Amanda from Alluminate Image Consulting...fabulous woman...I really must introduce you to her properly one day.
Anyway...as we were doing our double act, her focusing on 'how to work out your right colours' and me piping in with 'shopping for your shape' she dropped this one...'and it works well for her because she has a rounder face and the neckline repeats that shape. Things work best when natural features are repeated.'
"Yes! Absolutely!" was the cry from the crowd..a sea of nodding women.
I was suggesting that the top worked well because that neckline helped to reduce the 'boob bulk' and prevented our gorgeous mum from looking too top heavy and well...'a walking besser block' as I like to charmingly call it. Not sure what that is? Take a peek here...it's pretty graphic!
The top was the Suzie top in dark navy and white swirls. It also looked great on our mum because:
- she had black hair and fair complexion...deep blue eyes and the contrast of her personal colour palette was brought to life so well by the contrasting colours in the top.
- the swirls being a curvy pattern also worked sympathetically with her more curvy top half.
- the cut...perfect for skimming her tummy
- the length just right for covering her tum without the frump...stunning she was!
She basically wore our St Tropez look.
Anyway...it was like a bolt of lightening I tell you. Why hadn't I put that one together before? I was working with her round/curvy features in so many ways but forgot about her face! and such a lovely face it was too!!
So before I did this blog entry, I had a quick look to see who else out there knew about this trick other than me!
Pleased to say...my mate Sharlene from Truly does. I've raved about Truly before...because it IS truly fabulous. The point brought home again with Sharlene's knowledge of the importance of face shape. Little did I know that she had put in this very top (in green) as an example...pure poetry...really...pure poetry!
I've put a link to her 'Which Neckline Should I Wear?' article on her website below.
So thanks to Amanda for bringing this to my attention and for Sharlene for bringing it to life.
Another example of fabulous women doing fabulous things for other fabulous women!
So go to the bathroom right now and check out your face shape...apparently it dictates what shoes you should wear too!
- angular and slender faces...pointy toes work.
- rounder faces...stick to rounder toes
Here's to all our beautiful faces...only one each please...absolutely no 'two-faced' women allowed...as for 'faceless' I'll leave that totally up to you, after all, you're a big girl now.
Until next time.
