Summer Style - Celebrate your Waist...Caftans and more for Curvy Girls.
22 November 2008

At Sequins & Sand we understand troublesome bits. Yes, we have them too. But we've learned a few tricks along the way. Tips that will show you how to embrace what you've got and look fabulous. We can show you the best kaftans and swimwear for different bothersome bits so you can relax and enjoy your summer! Check the Size & Fit tabs for every kaftan, summer dress, swimwear, tops, bottoms and more.
This week, it's all about those curves and that wondrous waist. Don't run and hide pears, apples and columns, you'll get your time in the sun...promise.
Curves may be unmanageable at times but the upside is they create a waist and that makes you the envy of all other women. As for the boys, well, I've never met one that doesn't enjoy getting his hands around one...so the way I see it, having curves is absolutely fantastic and something to be truly celebrated and made the most of.
At the beach, here's how to turn heads:
Swimwear:
- Don't look past a One Piece. Bring that waist in even more to accentuate your gorgeous curves with the help of a little 'power netting'. Take a look at the Capriosca Ruffled Halter One Piece to see what I mean. The slightly higher leg will also lengthen your legs and distract from lumpy thighs. The bust work will help you bring out your best even more. Perfect!
Kaftans and Cover Ups:
- Anything that nips in at your waist of course! Look for something that is darted at the back and bust or cut on the bias (BUT only at the waist and not full length!! That will only cling you your hips...great to accentuate your waist, horrid if you are not particularly in love with your thighs)
- A lovely open neckline to break up your bust and stop it from looking 'blocky'. A walking besser brick has never been becoming. See San Sebastian with a neckline that can be tied up or let loose for flexibility and options...a girl's got to have options.
- To the knee if your thighs bother you...but really, only if they bother you otherwise, let them breathe.
Farrah is great. Not only because of her length, but because she's fitted more about the waist and with deep neckline. Stunning!
Summer Dresses:
- Same principles as for a kaftan. With the 'skirt' of the dress, if you have problem thighs, make sure it 'skims' and not clings - a gentle full skirt is perfect, one that just falls from the hips. If you love your thighs then by all means, bring it in tighter...I just find in summer, that is not the relaxed look one is after.
Turn heads in Meadow with a defined waist band and stunning print she's party perfect for curvy girls.
Skirts & Sarongs:
- Sarongs are great for showing off a waist. But a sarong with swing, that is a truly beautiful thing and just perfect for curvy girls.
You MUST take a look at this gorgeous sarong. I'd not seen anything like it which is why we bought them! This clever sarong looks like a skirt. Wear it as one with leggins under or on it's own...cha, cha, chaaaaa.
Pants and Trousers:
- Proportionally, a wider leg will work wonders for you. Traditional palazzo's that just fall from the hip are the perfect cut. We've got some coming soon!
Hats:
- Rejoice because you will look great in a lovely wide brim hat. Again, it's a proportion thing. Great curves will balance out the fullness of the hat brilliantly. Take a peek.
Well, I'm exhausted! So many insightful tips, very draining to churn out girls...but oh so enjoyable. Thanks for fun but now, I'm done!
Until next time... Celebrate the Waist...I dare you.
