Valentines Day - what's your perfect Valentine's Day Gift? ...assuming you celebrate it!
10 February 2008

Is it the fact that we are simply acknowledged that makes Valentines' Day burn on? Maybe it's the element of true surprise that get's us all warm and fuzzy.
Some how, having an international day to help prompt this kind of behaviour just doesn't sit right with me - it's almost stomach turning really. I figure, if it takes that kind of hype to get my beloved to acknowledge me and to make me feel 'special' as it were, then sadly I don't think we have anything at all to celebrate really. What would make me even sadder is if he was driven by guilt and the need to be seen to be participating in the event to surprise me. Guilt...now that's another juicy topic...might save that blog for a Sunday. As for keeping up appearances...well...
Blimey!, How sad am I. I've just realised that in my sour mood and perspective, I've missed one HUGE bit about Valentines' Day. The act of daring to declare affection for one who is bindingly and otherwise completely unaware! Now...that IS worth getting excited about!!
So what gift is regarded as appropriate, if indeed that is such a question to be asked? Are you a red roses girl? Ever the hopeless romatic...God bless you.
What about jewellery? Time for a rock or perhaps a new string of bling?
Romantic dinner more your thing? What about a new outfit...no...not that kind of outfit girls! One that you've had your eye one for a while and would just die to have.
For me, well, nothing short of a week-end away would do, nothing for me to organise, just rock on up and be surprised. Yep...that would do it!
What would I do for my boy? Hypercritically, probably driven by guilt, I may be forced to pop out and buy a new t-shirt for him or a couple of good books.
Yes...books!
If I hadn't managed to do that in time then, I would have to give 'myself' - Un-divided attention, un-interrupted conversation, witty repartee and throw in a deep and meaningful for good measure. What a woman! Who wouldn't want to celebrate Valentine's Day with me?!
Whichever way you choose to celebrate it or if you are lucky enough to have it all arranged for you, always use your manners girls and say 'thank you'. And always remember, nothing solves the dilemma of 'the perfect Valentines' Day present' like a good old fashioned...book!
