It's only ever one season at Sequins and Sand and that's summer; our focus, Resortwear. The cooler months might be heading our way, but that's when we get busy organising next summer and it's looking fabulous! Colours, prints, styles...we'll bring you more as the weather gets colder. So here it is, your first taste of Summer Colour 2010/11!

When we hand-pick our summer store collection, we keep these 4 things in mind and think that when you put your personal collection together, they'll serve you well too!:

  • Colours: warm, cool, bright and 'dusky/dirty'
  • Fabric: cool, soft, breathable, flowing, fall, prints
  • Fit: have we got the 3 main body shapes covered & in the right size?
  • Versatility: can they be taken from 'beach to bar' with effortless ease?

Let's start with Colour!
Colours not only set a mood but wearing the best colours for you can make your eyes sparkle and shave years off your age. As our sense of style strengthens, finding the colours that work gets easier and our colour palettes naturally evolve. Experimenting with new colours is invigorating and inspiring!

Every year, colour forecasters take into consideration world vibes, influences and attitudes and put forward colours that reflect those feelings, trends and 'the times'.

Because we are in the Southern Hemisphere, some of these colours might not appear with great gusto until into 2011/12...so you are waaaay ahead girls!

Pantone (thanks Amelia's Fashion Land for the tip) and le-cuir-a-paris have just released their forecasts for summer 2011. Dominant themes include:

  • Subdued Tones: intensity is dulled down and subtle tints (adding white/offwhite) and shades (adding black/grey) are in. Colours aren't crisp, so stark whites may be replaced/mixed with oysters and biscuits to tone it down a little.
  • Orange - particularly softer tones of tangerine, peach, sand
  • Grey - Artic tones of soft greys infused into greens & blues; light and dark shades
  • Pink - hot through to purple

I think this is fabulous for women 35+. Duskier, more subdued colours work better against skin that has started to lose it's clarity and brightness; for many of us, playing for hours on end in the hot Aussie sun without sunscreen has left its mark. If you have a clear, bright skin with a contrasting hair colour eg: Black hair and pale, clear skin, then go for the more intense colours...you can wear them well!

See them for yourself. Which palettes and colours are you naturally drawn to? Odds on, they'll be the ones that suit.
Have fun and think about the colours you might work into your personal colour palettes next summer. Beyond just clothing, these colours will be used in many facets of our lives, with interiors and magazines usually leading the charge.

Pantone Palettes are shown below on the top row, with le-cuir-a-paris colour palettes below that. Click on each photo and it will enlarge.

Next in the Summer Preview 2011 series we'll talk fabrics!

Until then...have fun with your colours!
