The best beach wear for big bellies: 3 simple tips for finding the right Bathers

Whether it's the baby bump that never went away or an attack of hormonal high-jinks, taming that tummy with swimwear that fits right is the ticket to looking your best this summer.

Whether it's the baby bump that never went away or an attack of hormonal high-jinks, taming that tummy with swimwear that fits right is the ticket to looking your best this summer.

Girls, it comes down to 3 simple things. Embrace these tips as your new best friends and you're certain to find the right swimsuit for you. We're going to get down and RAP!

  • R - Ruching
  • A - Angles
  • P - Print

Ruching is absolutely perfect for concealing a tummy. The gentle folds help hide what lies beneath, unlike a 'flat' fabric that hugs every contour. Tankinis (singlet top bikinis) or a One-piece with ruching are the ticket. See the images below for examples.

Angles are great for breaking up the 'belly brick'. Diagonal lines are the best. A fabulously effective diagonal is one that extends from your shoulder through your boobs down to your waist. Angles that come from top and bottom and meet around your belly button can create a waist where none existed before.

Combine an angled pattern with ruching, and you've got a slimming two-for-one.

Prints are the masters of disguise. The simple reason being that your eye doesn't know where to focus – less focus, no notice!

The golden rule for prints is to keep the proportions right for your size. The bigger and taller you are, the bigger the print you can get away with.

A placement print is a great trick. A large, single print placed on one side and centred at the waist will help to create the illusion of a waist. Again, it's an eye focus thing, proportion and balance. But let's not get too mathematical here.

So there you have it girls, Don't just leave the rapping to those young folk.

These tips work for more than just swimwear
One final, huge tip to RAP up with. These 3 simple rules apply whenever you are buying kaftans – or any other clothes for that matter. Look for ruching, angles and prints whenever you shop and you'll be on the right track for belly-beautiful dressing.

All of the styles listed are from our Capriosca range of swimwear which is available in sizes 10-26 so includes plus sizes too. Great Aussie label, great fit and great prices.
